This Notgeld is the 5th issue of a 7-piece set, issued by the city of Ehrenbreitstein. Now known as Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein, Ehrenbreitstein was incorporated into the city of Koblenz, in July 1937. It receives it's name from the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, which overlooks it. The fortress formed part of a larger Prussian defensive network, known as the Oberehrenbreitstein System.
Notably, the the 4th-6th issued notes feature the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress at various eras. These notes all share a 50 Pfennig value. While earlier notes are valued at 25 Pfennig and the final note at 75 Pfennig. (To pay tribute to the fortress, this note will be reviewed reverse first.)
Reverse
The reverse features an illustration of the (trans.) "Ehrenbreitstein (Fortress) in the year 1700". This illustration depicts the fortress from the Rheine River. Allowing the viewer to see the fortress and the city below. Notably the covered pathway depicted no longer exists. The site can be visited by riding the Festungsaufzug (fortress elevator), which replaced an earlier chairlift built, in 1955.
The remainder of the note is fairly sparse. At the far left of the note, is a small relatively ornate area. It's center reads "50₰", representing the note's 50 Pfennig value. Additionally the lower left reads "RAVLAND", a possible artist credit. As this is the traditional area to print one.
Observe
The observe features the Coat of Arms of Ehrenbreitstein. The header above lists the note as a (trans.) "Notgeld of the City of Ehrenbreitstein on the Rheine". Flanking the coat of arms are references to the note's "50 Pfennig value". Below these panels is some additional information.
The lower-left states the note "loses its validity 3 months after being called up". While the lower-right provides a 3 August 1921 print date. Followed by the signature of the city mayor, notarizing the note's use. The footer lists the note's printer as "Printed By Schaar & Dathe" of Trier".
