This large Notgeld represents the 1st denomination of a 2-piece series, issued by the City of Radolfzell. Also known as Radolfzell am Bodensee, is a popular a health resort town. It lays on the western shore of the Bodensee, known as the Untersee. Which forms the general theme of this Notgeld series. (To pay tribute this theme, this note will be reviewed reverse first.)
Reverse
The reverse features a colorful illustration of fisherman, on the Bodensee lakefront. The village of Radolfzell can be seen in the background. To the center-right is the Unserer lieben Frau Cathedral, which was completed in 1488. Based on the lower-right title, this illustration takes place "at the beginning of the 19th century".
The remainder of the note centers around the border. The header reads "Radolfzell", while its "1 Mark" value is listed below. The sides features potted white lilies, while the bottom features an except by Victor von Scheffel. It translates to, "O, Radolfzell, you old nest, with your trademark walls".
Observe
The observe features an illustration of Radolfzell founder Bishop Radolf of Verona (770-840/858). Radolf founded a Cella (chapel) in 826, which grew to the monastery and later to the village of Radolfzell. From 834 onward, Radolf lived in Radolfzell till his death. He was buried on the grounds of the Unserer lieben Frau Cathedral. Although the exact year is currently unknown.
The header reads "Voucher from the City of Radolfzell". Its "1 Mark" value flanks the illustration of Bishop Radolf of Verona framed by books, which he's listed by his Latin title. The footer below states the vouchers loses its validity "3 months after public notice".
Additionally the footer contains print date, serial number, and signature. The note was printed on the "15 December 1921". It's serial number is "21040" and was notarized by a member of the "(City) Council". Below the printer listed as "Stamle & Friedel" of Stuttgart.
